Arts

Sonora Elementary is proud to offer a wide variety of programs focused on visual and performing arts! We have several partnerships with organizations such as the Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Providing our students with opportunities in the arts helps to nurture them as individuals and offers a rich learning experience. Some of our arts showcases include:

Segerstrom Center for the Arts (SCFTA)

We partner with the  Segerstrom Arts Teach Program to offer artist residencies on our campus.  These artists allow our students to be immersed in various arts experiences over the course of several weeks. They include areas of focus such as music storytelling, theater through improve, and dance in Hip-Hop.

Annual School Musical

Every year we put on an absolutely amazing play production! Students from grades 1st  - 6th can participate and are involved in weekly rehearsals, memorizing lines, making costumes, and working collaboratively to make the play come alive. Many parents are also involved in assisting with costumes and helping backstage during the performance. The students perform the play at Costa Mesa High School's theater.

Meet the Masters

All students receive the opportunity to foster their creativity through receiving engaging art curriculum. Students learn about the famous works of Master Artists and are introduced to techniques about the revolutionary art work. The classroom becomes an art studio, and students are led through an art piece, usually in the same medium, style, or subject matter as the Art Master.

Sonora Band and Choir

We are proud to offer a band and choir program that is taught by our music teacher. Students in grades 4 - 6 have the opportunity to play several woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, baritone, and drums. The students rehearse three times a week after school. The band performs at various venues throughout the year, such as the Snoopy House, Irvine Performing Arts, and school concerts!
