Principal's Message

Dear Sonora Elementary Families,
On behalf of the entire Sonora staff, I’m happy to welcome both our new and returning families to the 2026 - 2027 school year! As we prepare for an exciting year ahead, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to our incredible school community.
What makes Sonora truly special is the feeling you experience the moment you arrive on campus. It is reflected in the excitement on the playground, the genuine connections between students and staff, the curiosity and collaboration taking place in every classroom, and the unwavering dedication of a staff committed to helping every child succeed. Together, we cultivate a welcoming community where every student feels valued, supported, challenged, and inspired to reach their fullest potential.
At Sonora, we believe that academic excellence and character development go hand in hand. Our commitment to providing a rigorous, engaging education is matched by our dedication to implementing the 6 Pillars of Character. We encourage students to think critically, embrace challenges, discover their unique strengths, and develop the confidence to make a positive impact in our school and beyond.
Our tradition of excellence is reflected in the accomplishments we celebrate as a community, including recognition as a 2020 California Distinguished School, continued student growth on state assessments, California Platinum PBIS recognition, and a strong commitment to the arts. These honors represent more than awards, they reflect the collective dedication of our students, staff, and families to creating an exceptional learning environment.
The partnership we share with our families is invaluable. Whether you volunteer in the classroom, participate in PTA, attend school events, or support learning at home, your involvement enriches our school community and sends a powerful message to every child that their education matters. Together, we create a place where every student feels a sense of belonging and every family is valued.
Every school year brings with it a fresh opportunity to grow, dream, and discover what is possible. This year, our theme, HEARTS ON FIRE (Purpose. Passion. Potential.) reminds us that each person who walks through our doors carries a unique spark waiting to shine.
A heart on fire is more than excitement. It's a commitment to learning, leading with kindness, persevering through challenges, and making a positive difference in the lives of others. It is the belief that every student has incredible potential, every staff member has the ability to inspire, and every family plays an essential role in creating a thriving school community.
At our school we believe that learning begins with belonging. When children feel safe, valued, and connected, they develop into individuals who thrive. We are building a community where every voice matters, every success is celebrated, and every individual has the opportunity to flourish.
As educators, our greatest privilege is not only teaching academic skills but also helping children discover their passion, recognize their strengths, and develop a sense of purpose. We strive to create meaningful learning experiences that spark curiosity, encourage creativity, and inspire students to believe in themselves. Every lesson, conversation, and voice of encouragement is an opportunity to help a child see their potential and the possibilities they may not yet see within themselves.
As we begin this exciting year, I invite you to join us in setting your HEARTS ON FIRE for our Sonora school community. I look forward to partnering with you as we ignite a school year filled with possibility.
I am always more than happy to talk or meet with you and welcome you to email me at mdoidge@nmusd.us, call the office at 714-424-7955, or find me out front!
It's my honor to work alongside you with our HEARTS ON FIRE for our children and for one another.
Sonora Love,
Mrs. Mia Doidge
Principal
