Summer Office Hours at Sonora!
The Sonora School Office is closed from July 1st – August 6th. The office will reopen on August 9th, with summer office hours from 7:00 – 3:30. In order for you to register in a Newport-Mesa School, you must first verify your residency. Sonora Elementary School Recognized as a California Business for Education Excellence (CBEE) 2009 Honor Roll School!Sonora was recently recognized as a member of the 2009 Honor Roll. The Honor Roll highlights schools across the state that are consistently outperforming other schools on academic achievement and reducing achievement gaps. For more information on the Honor Roll log onto http://www.cbeefoundation.org/honor_roll.html Sonora Elementary School Recognized for Getting Kids Moving!Press Release June 22, 2010 Jake Steinfeld, Chairman of the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, announded today (June 22) that Sonora Elementary School in Costa Mesa is one of 100 schools state-wide that have qualified to receive a brand new DanceDanceRevolution system! Sonora was selected for this award based on its participation in the 2010 Governor's Challenge Competition - a contest that promotes increased physical activity and better nutrition among California's youth. More than 200 students, teachers and parents at Sonora successfully completed the Challenge by being active at least 30-60 minutes per day, three days per week for a month or more during the school year. Sonora cumulatively recorded 32,300 days of physical activity! Mr. Steinfeld went on to say, "I'm thrilled to be able to recognize Sonora Elementary's efforts. Thank you Principal Anderson and Gayle Moss for stepping up as your school's Governor's Challenge Coordinator. You are clearly passionate about getting your kids active and making sure they eat well and I'm a big believer that passion leads and everything else follows." Mrs. Munroe's Class is a Runner Up in the Disney Planet Challenge!Mrs. Munroe's Class entered the Disney Planet Challenge for the 2009-2010 school year and won one of the "runner up" awards for their contribution to saving the planet. Sonora Elementary School was named a 2009 California Title I Achieving School and a 2009 National Title I Distinguished School. Sonora was one of two schools to represent the state of California at the National Title I Distinguished School Conference in February 2009.
