Sonora Elementary School Recognized for Getting Kids Moving!

Press Release June 22, 2010

Jake Steinfeld, Chairman of the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, announded today (June 22) that Sonora Elementary School in Costa Mesa is one of 100 schools state-wide that have qualified to receive a brand new DanceDanceRevolution system!

Sonora was selected for this award based on its participation in the 2010 Governor's Challenge Competition - a contest that promotes increased physical activity and better nutrition among California's youth. More than 200 students, teachers and parents at Sonora successfully completed the Challenge by being active at least 30-60 minutes per day, three days per week for a month or more during the school year. Sonora cumulatively recorded 32,300 days of physical activity!

Mr. Steinfeld went on to say, "I'm thrilled to be able to recognize Sonora Elementary's efforts. Thank you Principal Anderson and Gayle Moss for stepping up as your school's Governor's Challenge Coordinator. You are clearly passionate about getting your kids active and making sure they eat well and I'm a big believer that passion leads and everything else follows."
